Social media is a tool, a double-edged sword, of communication. And it has become a major instrument in a player’s career over the years. Increasingly, social media has become a major part of our lives. Football doesn’t escape that rule. If anything, it is one of the best examples of how a virtual society has turned upside down millions of lives.

It is incredibly easy to reach anyone these days. A message on Instagram is all it takes. The Internet never forgets, and often enough, it will refuse to forgive one’s mistakes either. Simultaneously, social media users have become young and younger. So have football players, becoming glorified stars before turning twenty-one. As if millions of pounds weren’t enough pressure for young adults to handle, the abuse of the fans has only grown stronger on platforms such as Twitter, Instagram and Tik Tok.

The rapidity of the internet is a blessing. Or a curse. It depends on the specific cases, and that perhaps is why social media has become incredibly terrifying to use.
