New season, new expectations. New transfer window, new players. New roles to assign, as previous starters become deadwood. New narratives, must-performers. Football can come at one very fast. Evolve or get left behind. Coaches bear all the responsibility for losses that may be deemed as ‘failure’ by the public. Sometimes, they are fired. Fans can be seen holding a banner, expressing discontent and wishing for the dismissal of the present manager. But what does it mean to fail for coaches?

From here to zero. From Champions League winner to refusing to continue as a manager after an unimpressive 20/21 season…

At last, La Liga was back. It was all fun and games when the so-called ‘Bordalas-derby’ kicked-off, living up to its foul-play hype. Guillamon earned a red already at the third minute, while Cabaco was sent off at the 76' for Getafe. Little did La Liga fans know a general brawl would follow suit between Atlético and Celta Vigo. Meanwhile, of all La Liga’s top three powerhouses took all three points home — all in very different ways.

Deportivo Alavés-Real Madrid: 1–4

Ancelotti’s return was somewhat of a surprise on the Madridista bench. Despite the large victory, Ancelotti did not exactly impress against Alavés…

It’s over. Culés are in tears. Messi wearing the PSG jersey, training with those colors, smiling in Paris. These scenes seem surreal, yet are reality. For fans, the break-up was too sudden, too rash, too painful. So was it for Messi. As fans isolate in attempt to dry their tears, some ask: What now?

Break-ups are tough. Forced divorces bring the worst out of human hearts. Amidst the tears, a shine of light appears, suddenly. It illuminates, with the following question: Could this squad force the upcoming generation to set up? …

Atalanta is not the story of a traditional rise. In a few years, Gasperini took the Bergamo club from small to established European club. To this day, many refuse to accept Atalanta’s methods. Chaotic in its nature, clear in its ideas: Atalanta will never cease to confuse its opposition. Italy could only wonder at Atalanta’s unexpected rise from the ashes: This is the story of Atalanta.

Atalanta’s origins are not the most inspiring. In 2015 and 2016, Atalanta was respectively 17th and 13th of the league. Far from the most impressive club, the Bergamo institution hired Gasperini, Genoa’s former coach…

Offense and Defense. Logical words. Referred as to one of the two ends of the pitch, football fans like to use these terms to refer to one specific area. Many tend to talk about a player and claim x is “good offensively but defensively weaker”. As the transfer window approaches, these terms are once again the center of attention of many tweets, attempting to evaluate x player or z team. Perhaps you have done. And here is why offense and defense are the same.

Football is evolving. There’s no doubt. As the sport is evolving, so is the vocabulary. Where…

France-Switzerland: (4)3–3(5)

Earlier, the Netherlands were amongst the first ‘big’ nations to crash out, losing to the Czech Republic. Later, Portugal lost against Belgium. It was soon France’s turn, even if it was not ready for it, nor was it expected for most. At last, France was defeated as Mbappé’s shot was saved by Sommer — the PSG star already had an awful tournament, the missed penalty a summary of his performance throughout the tournament. It was finally time for Deschamps to reflect on the system he had trusted for so long.

The crash might seem sudden: It wasn’t. France was expected…

Round of 16 are banging. It all started with a pleasant win of Denmark, once again making the headlines after they had adjusted to Welsh football; Meanwhile, Italy had to suffer until the last minutes to validate its ticket. Others failed to qualify, with already two big nations out: The Netherlands, czech-mated at the Puskas Arena while Portugal were unable to find the net against the Belgians. Unexpected or not, there is no complaint about the entertainment of football…

Denmark-Wales: 4–0

If Denmark had inspired throughout the group stage, the Welsh had not. They had their doubts, often preferring for long-balls over…

After two dangerous draws, La Roja was in danger. Fortunately, the deadlock was finally broken against Slovakia with a volleyball-like own-goal. Scenes continued as Denmark made it in-extremis to the R16. Group F also secured drama, following penalties, upsets: Hungary may have gone out, but remains the only non-underwhelming side of the group. The R16 are on!

Russia-Denmark: 1–4

When Denmark lost to Belgium despite an impressive performance in the first half as well as the dying minutes, football fans were sad. Not because everyone hates Belgium, but because everyone loves Denmark. …

Important phase of qualification, some sides have confirmed while others have raised concerns. Italy had already confirmed its wishes by winning twice 3–0 but still went to win 1–0 against Wales in MD3 despite fielding ‘A B-team’. Uninspiring Spain went on to draw against a rather weak Poland, confirming doubts of Spain’s competitivity so far. England did not impress too much with a goalless draw against neighbors Scotland. Where Germany is back on track with a smashing 4–2 win, France raised doubts given the 1–1 draw against Hungary. The Netherlands can also be happy of their qualification, fulfilling basic expectation…

The last three days saw multiple epic events, like yesterday’s Italy’s qualification as they score three past Switzerland, but also a goal from almost the half-way line of the Czech Republic. The clash featuring France and Germany was obviously the biggest fixture. A continuation of the Euros worth discussing about.

Spain-Sweden: 0–0

Spain’s known problem is finishing. But issues seem to be ingrained deeper as cracks were shown over the surface when La Roja failed to score against Sweden. It was expected to see Spain struggling against a perhaps less brave side, aiming to defend as deep as their own box and…
